Meet Dr. Stephanie Shelton
Education and Credentials:
Dr. Stephanie has earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Olivet Nazarene University (2005), a Master of Social Work from Governor’s State University (2006); and a PhD in Health Psychology from Walden University (2018). Dr. Stephanie is an Illinois Licensed Clinical social worker (149.018912) and holds certifications as a trauma informed therapist and a trauma informed yoga instructor. Dr. Stephanie has over 10 years of experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability. She began her social work career as a clinical therapist for this population and worked her way to hold a Director of Adults Services position. Dr. Stephanie has a heart and desire to provide quality services for adults with disabilities ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to live a life to their full potential.
Approach:
Dr. Stephanie seeks to help individuals on their journey towards wholeness and healing. Her greatest reward as a therapist is to empower her clients to find their strengths and move their lives in the direction they desire. She believes in a holistic approach to health; that all components of one’s life are interrelated. She provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can be themselves without fear of rejection.
Target Population:
Dr. Stephanie has over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, senior adults, and couples from a variety of backgrounds.
Issues Addressed:
Dr. Stephanie is currently working with individuals who are struggling with abuse from a narcissistic person, whether it be a partner, parent, child, or someone else in their life.
Therapy Type:
Dr. Stephanie uses a wide range of therapeutic modalities with the most common being Christian Counseling, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy.
